Action Zone and Contact

PCS has been spreading the true factual reality of what Rampion2 will mean for Sussex since mid 2021 by direct contact with MPs, Landowners, individuals parish town and County councils, residents associations as well as by placing  advertorials in direct circulation magazines ranging from Emsworth in the West to Worthing in the East. Combined circulation in excess of 100,000. You may already have seen and read some of these advertorials that were written on the theme “Rampion 2- the biggest challenge to Sussex since 1066”

Do not give consent to the Rampion2 windfarm extension off the coast of Sussex

A selection of local magazines that published our articles on Rampion 2.

Our Government petition set out below attracted 2781 signatures on line during the limited time of six months permitted by House of Commons rules. It has become clear to us that public knowledge about the implications of Rampion 2 for people living in Sussex was and still is scarce.

Energy companies should be encouraged to invest in windfarms out of sight of land such as the North Sea, enabling connection with the existing offshore grid network and keeping the impact to a minimum. Here stronger and more consistent winds should result in higher efficiencies than in the Channel.

More details
We believe the proposal to install up to 116 wind turbines in Sussex Bay stretching from Worthing to Selsey will blight the entire horizon along this area of outstanding natural beauty. The turbines will be as tall as 325m, 2.35 times the height of Rampion1 turbines, and higher than any hill in West Sussex. Sited only 8 miles from the shoreline, this proposal will be much nearer land than most offshore windfarms and will impact hard on local communities, the environment and the economy.

Support from MP’s

  • Nick Gibb MP - Conservative

    Representing Bognor Regis and Littlehampton

“The visual impact of the turbines on our outstanding seascape would be hugely damaging, particularly to tourism, which is an important employer in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.”

“I support the Government’s aim for the UK to be a world leader in renewable energy”

“This stretch of the West Sussex coastline is an inappropriate location for such a large wind farm.”

  • Sir Peter Bottomley MP - Conservative

    Representing Worthing West

“We can unite in supporting renewable energy but share in concern at inappropriate projects with adverse impacts. I echo the concerns shared by Andrew Griffith MP for Arundel and the South Downs and Nick Gibb MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, in saying that the location for the project isn’t the right one.”

  • Andrew Griffith MP - Conservative

    Representing Arundel and South Downs

“Offshore wind power is already playing a valuable role in our journey to Net Zero.”

“However, with plenty of capacity available at sites with more reliable wind in the North Sea, I am unconvinced that West Sussex is the best place for such a large wind farm expansion.”“Badly planned wind farms have the potential to cause unnecessary onshore and offshore harm and damage the local economies of seaside towns along the South coast.”

Support from Councils

We are pleased to report that two parish councils have recognised the scale of the problems that will arise should Rampion 2 get approval, and have voiced their strong opposition to it. These are Middleton Parish Council and Kingston Parish Councils. Many others have written about specific concerns asking for mitigation actions.

Unfortunately, many other councils have neither supported nor opposed the Rampion 2 project, taking the view that their individual constituents must make up their own mind. Seems like ducking their responsibility to us.

What you can do

Aside from sending an e mail to your local MP, district and County Councillors to confirm your opposition to Rampion 2, you can participate in the planning enquiry that will start once RWE formally submit their final plan to the Planning Inspectorate. Full details of how to do this are shown in the News Update section of this website.
